Exciting Opportunity for a Skilled Financial Accountant in the Education Sector – Immediate Contract in Central Melbourne

Join a leading organisation within the tertiary education industry on a 4-6 month contract as a Financial Accountant. This pivotal role offers the chance to work within a dynamic, growing environment, supporting multiple divisions and contributing to organisational excellence. If you are detail-oriented, proactive, and possess a robust understanding of financial processes, this opportunity is tailor-made for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive management reports, including monthly financial statements, journals, accruals, and variance analysis for executive review
  • Deliver accurate monthly payroll variance reports and ensure timely BAS/FBT reporting, alongside other compliance obligations such as GHG and ABS Capex
  • Conduct detailed reconciliations of balance sheets and payroll, supporting audit processes with well-prepared work papers and schedules
  • Manage Fixed Asset Register, including acquisitions, disposals, and transfers, ensuring compliance with IFRS16 leasing standards
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of Business Central system, including user setup, troubleshooting, and staff training
  • Oversee financial administration tasks such as gift pay, credit card management, and the operational aspects of the Culture Club
  • Assist the Group Financial Controller with ad hoc projects, analysis, and process improvements to enhance financial reporting accuracy and efficiency

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience with finance systems such as Business Central or similar
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent qualification, or working towards this credential
  • Strong analytical and communication skills to interpret and present financial data effectively
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high accuracy

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Previous experience in the education or tertiary sector
  • Familiarity with IFRS standards, especially IFRS16 Lease Accounting
  • Knowledge of multi-division or multinational financial environments
  • Experience supporting financial system enhancements or system configuration

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in accounting or commerce
  • Demonstrated practical experience in preparing management accounts, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency with Business Central or analogous financial management systems

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to support multiple stakeholders and work collaboratively in a fast-paced setting
