A well-established professional services firm is looking to appoint an Assistant Manager to join its growing Tax team.

This is a broad tax role offering a combination of compliance and advisory work across a diverse client base, from privately owned SMEs through to large multinational groups.

Alongside your core compliance responsibilities, you’ll gain exposure to M&A transactions, business restructures, transaction support and international tax matters. You’ll also take on greater responsibility for client relationships, engagement delivery and supporting junior members of the team.

The Role

As an Assistant Manager, you’ll work closely with clients and senior members of the Tax team, taking ownership of engagements while continuing to develop your technical and advisory skill set.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and delivering tax compliance engagements across a varied client portfolio.
  • Reviewing technical tax work and providing guidance to more junior team members.
  • Balancing ongoing compliance responsibilities with transactional and advisory projects.
  • Assisting with M&A transactions, business restructures and transaction support engagements.
  • Supporting broader tax consulting projects for Australian and multinational clients.
  • Applying your knowledge of international tax to cross-border matters.
  • Preparing complex advice, reports, letters and other client-facing documentation.
  • Undertaking detailed tax analysis and supporting practical recommendations for clients.
  • Working directly with clients to understand their requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Assisting Managers and Partners on more complex engagements.
  • Taking a supervisory role across engagements and helping ensure work is delivered to a high standard.
  • Mentoring, training and developing junior members of the team.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced tax professional who has a strong compliance background and is ready to take the next step into a more senior, client-facing position.

You’ll ideally have:

  • 5–6 years' experience in Australian taxation, ideally within professional services.
  • A degree in Business, Commerce, Law or a related discipline.
  • CA, CPA, Australian Tax Institute qualification or equivalent.
  • Strong tax compliance experience, including reviewing the work of others.
  • Exposure to tax advisory, M&A, transaction support and/or business restructures.
  • Working knowledge of international tax matters.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple engagements and competing deadlines.
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • A proactive and commercial approach to client work.
  • A genuine interest in mentoring and developing junior team members.

Why Consider the Role?

This is an opportunity to step into an Assistant Manager position where you’ll be given increasing responsibility across both clients and engagements.

You’ll be able to build on your tax compliance experience while gaining broader exposure to M&A, restructures, international tax and advisory work. The diverse client base also means you’ll have the opportunity to work with both growing businesses and multinational organisations.

With regular exposure to senior professionals, client-facing responsibility and opportunities to mentor junior staff, the role provides a strong platform for continued progression within Tax.
