Automation Engineer | 3-4 Month Contract | Not-for-Profit
Location:
Melbourne, 2 days in office
Contract length:
3-4 months, with a strong chance of extension
About the role
We're partnering with a well-established not-for-profit organisation to bring on an Automation Engineer to modernise their test automation function. Their current automation setup has fallen behind, and this role is all about getting it up to scratch: rebuilding, restructuring, and future-proofing their approach so testing is properly integrated into the delivery pipeline.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can work autonomously; you'll be trusted to assess what's there, identify the gaps, and drive the uplift with minimal oversight.
What you'll be doing
- Reviewing and overhauling the existing automation framework, which is currently outdated and underperforming
- Designing and building automated test suites using Playwright
- Integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines so tests run continuously rather than manually
- Working closely with the development team to embed quality practices earlier in the delivery cycle
- Identifying and resolving gaps in test coverage across key systems
- Providing recommendations on tooling, process, and long-term automation strategy
What we're looking for
- Strong, hands-on experience with Playwright (essential)
- Solid DevOps exposure; comfortable working with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitLab
- Proven ability to work autonomously and take ownership of a body of work with limited supervision
- Experience rebuilding or significantly improving an automation framework, not just maintaining one
- Strong communication skills; able to explain technical gaps and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable working within a mission-driven, not-for-profit environment
Why apply
- Genuine opportunity to rebuild something from the ground up rather than inherit a well-oiled machine
- Work with a purpose-driven organisation
- Strong chance of contract extension based on performance and ongoing need
- Autonomy to shape the automation strategy, not just execute someone else's plan
