Are you a talented accountant with a passion for energy markets? Our client, a prominent player in the utilities industry, is seeking a dedicated Derivatives Accountant to join their dynamic finance team in Melbourne. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage complex energy trading accounts and contribute to a company's strategic growth within a vibrant, fast-paced environment.

In this pivotal position, you will collaborate with the Energy Management Finops team to deliver accurate financial reporting and ensure regulatory compliance across wholesale energy trading activities. Your expertise will support key processes such as month-end close, inventory accounting, and intercompany derivatives reconciliation, making a tangible impact on the organisation’s financial integrity.

What Are We Looking For?

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial reporting, controls, or related functions within the energy or commodities sector
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, with the ability to manage month-end processes efficiently
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems and reconciliations
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement capabilities, supporting cross-departmental decision making
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to tasks and challenges

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Familiarity with commodity or energy derivative products
  • Experience working with trading systems and associated inventory accounting
  • Knowledge of Australian regulatory reporting standards such as AFSL

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent
  • CA qualification or recognised equivalent is preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to manage complex data and identify process improvement opportunities
  • Commitment to adhering to safety, ethics, and compliance standards in line with organisational cultural principles
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving priorities within a high-growth environment
