The opportunity

The Head of Legal is a pivotal executive role at the core of the organisation’s success, shaping the legal and commercial strategy across all construction and infrastructure projects. As a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team, this role plays a critical part in enabling growth, safeguarding the business, and driving high-value project outcomes.
Key responsibilities may include (but not limited to) the following:
 
  • Lead legal matters on contracts, disputes, claims, corporate and regulatory. Lead the legal function as a strategic partner to the executive team, influencing key business decisions.
 
  • Strategic legal advice on major tenders, bids, joint ventures, alliances, and acquisitions. Oversee all legal aspects of major construction projects, from tender and procurement through to delivery and close-out. Structure, negotiate, and manage complex, high-value contracts to optimise commercial outcomes and minimise risk.
 
  • Own dispute avoidance and resolution strategy, including adjudications, litigation, and external counsel management. Direct dispute resolution strategy, including claims, litigation, and arbitration, protecting the company’s interests.
 
  • Develop and maintain group-wide legal templates, standards, playbooks, and frameworks. Ensure robust governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks across the organization.
 
  • Build risk-aware capability across the business through coaching, training, and governance.

About you
  • Strong commercial acumen, legal experience and senior stakeholder influence capability and proven leadership capability in complex, fast-paced environment
  • Admitted Australian lawyer with 8–12+ years PQE in construction, infrastructure, or major projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading legal functions, managing disputes, and advising Executives and demonstrated ability to operate at executive level and influence organisational strategy
