Principal Consultant, Data & Analytics (Microsoft Stack)

Location: Sydney/Melbourne (hybrid, flexible working arrangements)
Employment type: Permanent, full time

About our client

Our client is one of Australia's most revered specialist data consulting firms, designing and implementing Financial Performance Management, Business Intelligence, Financial Reporting, Data Visualisation, Predictive Analytics and Information Management solutions for public and private sector organisations across Asia Pacific.

Since 2007 they have built a reputation for delivering some of the largest and most successful IT projects in Australia. They partner with multiple market-leading technologies and work across Financial Services, Retail, Leisure and Hospitality, Mining, Education, Media and Entertainment, Oil and Gas, Government and Communications, with offices across Australia and Singapore.

Their culture is collegiate, professional and enjoyable, with direct access to the leadership team and real scope to make an impact.

About the role

This is a true end-to-end Principal Consultant position. You will own engagements from the first client conversation through to final delivery, shaping the solution, leading the architecture and build, and making sure the outcome delivers value.

With a full portfolio of live projects and a strong pipeline, you will work across a range of industries, with most of the work centred on the Microsoft data platform, including Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.

The role suits someone who enjoys a technical challenge, thinks independently and keeps a close eye on what is new in the Microsoft data stack. You will build solutions that genuinely change how clients run their businesses.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting presales activity alongside the leadership team, including discovery sessions, workshops, scoping, estimation and proposals
  • Owning solution architecture for client engagements, designing modern data platforms and analytics solutions on Microsoft Fabric, Azure and Power BI
  • Turning complex business needs into clear, practical reporting and analytics solutions that deliver real value
  • Leading work across the full project lifecycle, from analysis and design through to build, testing, deployment and handover
  • Working closely with project teams to deliver cross-functional data and reporting solutions
  • Building trusted client relationships as a credible source of guidance on Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, from technical teams through to senior executives
  • Managing projects to deadlines and budgets while maintaining quality
  • Mentoring consultants and analysts, setting technical standards and contributing to the growth of the practice

What you bring

You take ownership without waiting to be asked. You are comfortable stepping into ambiguity, raising the right questions early and working a problem through until the client has an answer they can act on. You build trust quickly with a technical peer or with a business stakeholder who has never opened Power BI, and you give the same care to a workshop as you do to final delivery.

  • Extensive experience in data and analytics consulting, with a track record of leading projects end to end
  • Deep hands-on expertise across the Microsoft data stack, including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Synapse and Azure SQL
  • Proven solution architecture experience, including data warehouses, lakehouses and semantic models
  • Strong requirements gathering and documentation skills, including client interviews, workshops, functional and technical specifications, SOWs and estimates
  • Experience delivering across both agile and waterfall projects
  • Confidence designing and running Power BI and Fabric training for end users
  • Clear communication across technical and business audiences, while managing several projects at once
  • Experience leading or mentoring project teams
  • Exposure to industries such as financial services, retail, hospitality, mining or government is highly regarded
  • Experience with Financial Performance Management platforms is a bonus
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications are advantageous
  • Full Australian work rights

Why join

  • True end-to-end ownership, from presales through to delivery
  • Variety of work across multiple industries, with a strong project pipeline
  • A collegiate, supportive culture that embraces diversity
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Ongoing learning and development
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program
  • Direct access to the leadership team and the ability to make a real impact
