Senior Financial Accountant | 6-Month Fixed Term Contract | Not-for-Profit – Inner Eastern Suburbs, Melbourne

This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead key accounting functions within a dynamic team committed to making a positive impact. Over six months, you will be instrumental in managing financial records, ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards, and supporting the organisation’s financial reporting excellence.

This position is ideal for an experienced accountant eager to contribute their expertise within the not-for-profit sector, working collaboratively across finance, payroll, and procurement teams, and driving continuous improvements in financial processes.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • CA or CPA qualified accountant with extensive experience in financial accounting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Fixed Assets, Lease Accounting (AASB 16), Payroll, and General Ledger reconciliations.
  • Proven ability to manage month-end and year-end processes, ensuring internal controls and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Experience with financial systems such as Business Central, Dayforce payroll system, and EFTPOS/payment platforms.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Knowledge of the not-for-profit sector and familiarity with relevant reporting standards.
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting in complex environments.
  • Previous involvement in audit processes and preparing position papers.
  • Experience in policy development and process documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial accounting roles, preferably within the not-for-profit sector.
  • Proven track record of managing complex financial activities and leading a small team.
